Hi, I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me E.
I'm a 11-year-old beekeeper from Maine, and I want to share my personal story with you. I love bees because they are amazing creatures that make honey and pollinate flowers. They also teach me a lot about life and nature.
I started beekeeping when I was 6, after I saw a documentary about the decline of bees and how important they are for the environment. I asked my parents if I could get a hive, and they agreed, as long as I did my research and learned how to take care of them. I read books, watched videos, and joined a local bee club. I also got a mentor, Mr. Jones, who is an experienced beekeeper and a very kind person.
He helped me set up my first hive in our backyard, and taught me how to inspect it, feed it, and harvest honey. He also showed me how to handle bees gently and safely, and how to avoid getting stung. He said that bees are like friends, they will not hurt you if you respect them and their space.
I now have two hives, and I'm planning to get more next year. I love watching the bees come and go, and listening to their buzzing sound. It makes me happy and calm.
I also love tasting the honey they make, it's so sweet and delicious. I sometimes sell it at the farmers market, or give it as a gift to my family and friends.
Beekeeping is not only a hobby, it's also a passion and a responsibility. I want to help the bees survive and thrive, because they are essential for our planet.
I also want to inspire many other kids to become beekeepers, or at least to appreciate bees and protect them. I think of the honey that they produce as Liquid GOLD. I hope many of you will join me on this amazing journey.
All the attention I have received by Magazines and even CBS's Sunday Morning means the most to me because it helps me spread my love for Bees.
